Collection: Auricula 2027

Our new-season Primula auricula collection is due to launch in January or February 2027. Please check back then to explore the new season’s varieties, grown at our specialist UK nursery.

The collection will bring together distinctive Primula auricula for enthusiasts, alpine growers and gardeners looking for characterful spring plants, including border, alpine, double and show varieties.

A little auricula history

Auriculas have a rich history dating back to as early as 1700s. They became especially popular during the Victorian era, when gentlemen in bowler hats gathered at local pubs to exhibit their prized auriculas, in hopes of winning a copper kettle for best in show!

Growing and winter care

Border, alpine and double auriculas can remain outdoors throughout the year, either planted in the garden or grown in containers. Keep them in a cool position with light semi-shade and free-draining compost.

Show auriculas, including edged, self and striped types, need more protection. Keep them in pots under cold cover through winter and until flowering has finished, using an unheated greenhouse, polytunnel, cold frame or covered porch. This protects the flowers and foliage from excessive winter wet and harsh weather while keeping the plants cool.

After flowering, move show auriculas outside to a cool, airy position for summer, away from intense heat and strong midday sun.
